Procedures: Reconstructive: Paediatric Surgery- Cleft- Craniofacial Syndromes

Lower lip Haemangioma- most of them resolve spontaneously, persistent ones can be surgically removed

Lateral Orbit Dermoid Cyst- excised through upper eyelid crease incision

Cleft Lip & Palate

Clefts may affect the lip, nose, gum, palate (roof of mouth) in varying degrees of severity with an incidence of approximately 1:1000. Care of the cleft lip& palate begins in the first few days of life when the mother is advised on how to care for & feed the newborn. Pre-surgical Orthodontics may be needed which can facilitate surgical repair and enhance results, this starts in the first few days of life and continue until the time of surgery. Cleft lip is often repaired at age 3 months while Cleft Palate is done at age 9 months.

These operations are complicated and take 2-3 hours to perform, often requiring the use of operative microscope, after which the child is cared for in specialised paediatric units or even Intensive care units for a few days. In the long term; Cleft kids are followed up in a multi- displinary clinic for several years.Several operations my be needed until the patient is around 18-20 years of age.

Craniofacial Syndromes

These are rare complex facial clefts that are challenging to repair, often requiring multi-stage and often difficult surgical repairs
