Scalp defects are often repaired using skin grafts at the time of the injury, this results in unsightly bald patches.
Later on these grafts can be replaced by expanded scalp flaps that are hair bearing so they blend easily into the scalp as scar lines are generally hidden within the hair.
the procedure involves at least 2 stages (sometimes more) where tissue expanders are inserted under the scalp to stretch the skin, eventually these flaps are moved to replace the scarred/ bald areas in the scalp.
